January Transfer Window Countdown

The countdown to the transfer window opening is on and so are the rumours.

Too many reports are stating that Arsenal have agreed a £5M fee to sell young Danish striker Bendtner to Spartak Moscow.  Whilst the young Dane has not lived up to expectations; I would be surprised if Wenger allowed Bendtner to leave unless he has a top striker lined up to come to the club, in the mould of Obefami Martins. Nobody knows when Eduardo will return to his best, this sale at this moment in time, will leave us short up-front. Possibility 50%

There have been several reports linking Toure with a move to Manchester City. If this transfer went through, we will be looking at a £10M plus fee from moneybags City. The basis of this rumour is that Toure has not played at centre-back in recent games when he has been fit. The problem with this rumour is that it will leave us with two 30 plus players and tow youngsters as our centre-backs. With Wenger’s propensity to sell players over the age of 30, it is not beyond imagination to see Gallas leave in the summer; if Toure was sold in January then we will once again be short in terms of experience in crucial position. Possibility 20%

Hull were rumoured to have eyed up Vela for a loan spell. This “transfer” will suit Arsenal. With Eduardo slowly coming back, the young Mexican will receive even less playing time. His development would be best served playing regularly for Hull in the premier league. Possibility 80%

If Arsenal suffer an exit tonight or in the semi-final of the Carling Cup, expect to see Lansbury, Randall and Hoyte all go out on loan to championship or in the case of Randall to a premier league team.

Arsenal will move for Yaya Toure in January. Wenger has tracked the Ivorian midfielder ever since he was on trial at Arsenal several years ago. This move will be popular and add steel and experience to our midfield. The fee will be around £7M. Possibility 85%

Wenger will also look at bringing in another winger to the club to cover for the loss of Walcott and Rosicky. Numerous names are always thrown into the hat, but this one will be either youngster like Eljero Elia of Twente, a favourite rumour Charles N’Zogbia or an unknown from La Ligue on the recommendations on Grimandi.

One thing is for sure; Wenger will act fast in January as he did a couple of seasons ago when he bought Diaby, Adebayor, and Walcott early in the transfer window.
