According to Mamadou Sakho’s agent, Arsenal are in prime position to complete signing of the Paris St Germain defender.
Arsenal have been on Sakho’s trail for some time, in line with half-a-dozen other La Ligue based players. Sakho is young, but it appears that Wenger believes the 19 year-old is able to make the grade in the Premier League at such a tender age.
Hager told Sport: “He will be moving clubs this summer. Arsenal are interested, but the club are too cheap at the moment (this could be a mis-translation of Arsenal are not yet prepared to meet PSG’s valuation).
“Yes, I think a transfer will happen soon. He wants to play football in England and Arsenal are a good club but Manchester United is a better club.
“Arsenal want him, but Manchester United not yet. Barcelona in Spain, and Bayern Munich in the German league are also interested. They are all the teams at the moment that are interested in the player.
“But the most interested club is Arsenal, they want him the most. Bayern Munich is a top European club, so I think it will be Bayern or Arsenal.”
Clearly Hager is trying to gee Arsenal along by throwing in Manchester United and Barcelona into the frame. This is classic agent speak, add bogus clubs to try to force the real interested party into making a move.
Arsene likes Sakho, but nothing will happen until Arsene returns to England next week, then he will sit down with Gazidis and methodically go through his transfer targets. Whilst Ivan Gazidis has made enquiries and where those enquiries have led to firm bids that have been accepted, the players will want to hear from Arsene himself, as he did last year with Aaron Ramsey.
