Gervinho and Samba Done Deals – No Way Defoe – Bring Back Vieira

Numerous blogs, football news sites and tweets claim that Gervinho has agreed a 4 year deal and Arsenal have agreed a £10.5M fee with Lille.  Let’s hope Gervinho brings something different to our attack.

GoonerBlog is reporting that Samba has also agreed a deal with Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers have agreed to sell Samba for £9M.

I trust these are just the beginning of Arsene’s transfer deals this summer, it would be great for the morale of the Arsenal fans if the club announced these signings sooner rather than later.

Other transfer titbits come from who claim that Arsenal chief Gazidis has held talks with Bolton supremo Gartside over a possible transfer of Gary Cahill.  Cahill is a long-term target for Arsenal, a player we should have bought him last summer.  The surprise player we are being linked with Sebastian Larsson.  Wenger knows all about Larsson as he was an Arsenal player before joining Birmingham City.   Larsson is a free agent, but I cannot see where he will fit into our line up.  Central midfield we have Song, Wilshere, Ramsey, Diaby and possible Nasri and Fabregas if they stay.  I can only see Larsson as being a squad player.

Another story that has re-emerged is Jermaine Defoe.  Yes that Spurs player who looks every bit a Spurs player, there’s nothing Arsenal looking abut Defoe. He is being touted as a solution to our striker problem, yes a player who scored 5 premier league goals last season.  The fee, a cool £15M.  If Wenger has £15M to spend on a striker, Defoe is not the man for Arsenal, why should we give Harry Redknapp the money to go and steal our transfer targets and at the same time acquire an ageing has been striker. Wenger should steer clear of Defoe and turn his attention to Connor Wickham, this is the guy who will score goals for us that is a guarantee.

Finally, Patrick Vieira has been released by Manchester City.  Wenger should sign the Arsenal legend on a player / coach contract.  There is nobody better than to bring on in the last 10 minutes of a game to close out a game. How many points did we lose in the last 10-15 minutes of a game, a player of Vieira’s experience would have rallied the troops to ensure that three points remained ours.

Let’s hope that Wenger has closed two or three deals and these are announced over the week-end to give all Arsenal fans a lift.
