Arsenal’s offer of £10M for Arshavin has been rejected by Zenit. Zenit went public saying the offer was unacceptable and I imagine most at Arsenal expected it to be rejected.
Arsenal offered £10M plus £5M in performance fees. Zenit are looking for a combined fee in the region of £18M, with a greater upfront fee from Arsenal. An additional £2M will see the deal sealed this week.
Wenger realises that we need a player like Arshavin to propel us forward in this troublesome season.
Wenger will go to the board and demand that the deal is pushed through. If the board refuses, then Wenger will go for a second target, but the long-term impact will be catastrophic. A UEFA Cup spot is worth £5M, whilst a Champions League place is worth in the region of £30M. It is a no brainer even for our board of directors.
In keeping with Arsene’s transfer policy, we have been linked with Boca Juniors’ 28 year central midfield hardman Sebastien Battaglia. The fee is estimated to be £4M, if this link is true it could well go through quicker than the Arshavin deal that might drag on for the whole transfer window.
In a clear sign that the player intends to move to Arsenal and has probably agreed personal terms, Arshavin stated, “”I would prefer my present Number 10 but in the team where I hope to move it’s not vacant. So I’m ready for any number they are going to offer me.”
