Board Puts Pressure on Wenger to Spend

Reports in The Sun claim that the Board want Wenger to spend money this summer.  They are feeling the heat from the fans; this is self-evident with swathes of empty seats beckoning for the forthcoming Emirates Cup.  With 8 days to go there are plenty of seats available.  The club has been advertising heavily in the London Evening Standard and Talksport has been heavily involved in promoting the tournament.

Whilst the board can live without trophies, what will hurt the board and the club are empty seats, especially in our prestigious pre-season tournament.

The fans vented their anger towards the board on the last day of the season when we were asked to pay an extra 6%, yet we were not seeing any tangible signs on the pitch of improvement.

Wenger and Gazidis told us it will be a busy summer for Arsenal in terms of transfers, so we all rubbed our hands together and expected big signings early.  As usual with Arsenal’s transfer activity it all amounted to zero.  The usual suspects linked to Arsenal, Samba, Cahill, Benzema, Melo, Jagielka, but as is the norm, nothing has happened except for the signing of Gervinho.  Summer 2011 has been a carbon copy of 2010 and 2009 and the fans and the board have had enough.

Wenger has already lost one battle in that the board, namely Ivan Gazidis, forced the Far East tour upon Wenger and Gazidis has gone further and stated we will tour again and sooner rather than later.  This is pure anathema to Wenger who loved his cosy training camp in Austria coupled with a couple of matches against local 3rd or 4th division teams.

Wenger is under pressure from the fans and the board to spend the money that IS available.  Wenger needs to abandon his policy of youth development and replace it with winning trophies.

  1. I hope that this is not another good cop, bad cop routine, which we have grown used to. There is no real need for pressure from the board to sign players. If there is a need and there is, the board should ask AW whch players could fulfill that defensive need. He should supply this …. in fact any Arsenal fan could do this. They should then go ahead and negoiate the deal. This fudge and mudge is not going to fool anyone.

  2. i think wenger sould buy quality players or else if he is not ready to spend he let another manager be. it’s not as if there is no money, then what is the problem with him?

  3. m nt sure arsene is in any pressure frm any board, bcos if he is by nw arsenal would ve sign another player.dey re really pissing me off,m tired of d same story evry day.wt dey waiting 2 let fab go,wit out him in d match bt arsenal nd manu, ramsey proved himself 2 b a quality player,d team played a fantastic ball, rooney ws no where 2 b found.arsene pls let him go nd concentrate on buying new players.

  4. thats true he must buy or else

  5. Fuck wenger dat old dude is not a coach he is a busines man

  6. it is not ‘any arsenal fan’ who could advise the board on what defenders to sign. neither samba nor cahill are fast/technical enough for arsenal, yet that’s what most fans are desperate for?

    bring on mexes…

  7. A very disjointed and anti-Wenger rant poorly disguised as a ¨thoughtful¨ article. Come out and say it mate, you hate him and will diss him whenever you can. Reports from the Sun…..give me a break, aren’t they the same tabloid rag that claimed Kate was pregnant from William? Great source moron!
As usual you didn’t mention Jenkinson being signed, and you conveniently forget that there are still 43 days left in the transfer window. Equating his youth development policy to our trophy drought is like comparing his transfer policy to our injury record….it doesn’t equate and is feeble, lazy, cretinous writing, but that’s just about your style.
Wenger prefers the Austria route because it takes less out of the players and gives him more time to work in pre-season preparations and fitness. Even the players agreed that the Asia Tour was more tiring and poor preparation for the upcoming Cup. That said, the Board felt that the fallout, both financially and marketing wise was worth some negative effects the Tour entailed.
Get your facts straight and do your basic research before vomiting your shite!

  8. I CARN’T COMMENT MY TRUE FEELINGS TO THIS,REGARDING WENGER ,THEY WOULD
NEVER PRINT IT,AND THAT WOULD BE A WASTE OF INK,BUT TO SHOW YOU ALL WHAT
I MEAN,THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR ME THIS YEAR,WOULD BE FOR ME TO PICK UP MY MORNING PAPER,AND THE HEADLINES WAS “ARSENE WENGER SACKED”
IT WOULD BE AS GOOD AS WINNING THE LOTTERY,IN FACT, “MUCH BETTER”.
    UP THE GUNNERS.
