What Is Our Best Starting XI?
Slowly, slowly Wenger is recovering his players. Rosicky came back and has played some football for us with no set-backs. Carlos Vela appeared and scored mid-week, so this give Arsene more choices up-front. Wenger has announced that both Walcott and Arshavin are back and though both may not play this week-end, the squad is looking stronger every week. We still have Nasri to come back.
Let us assume that all the players return, including Denilson. What will be the best starting lining up?
The back four will be Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen and Clichy. The only person who is vulnerable is Clichy. If Gael does not cut out his indecisions and errors, then Gibbs should become our left-back. Wenger has said that his is a future England left-back, I believe if Wenger gave him games, then Capello will take him the World Cup Finals.
Alex Song will be the holding midfielder, there is no argument here and Alex is disciplined enough to hold his position.
Playing just in front of Song will be Fabregas and Rosicky. Both players will give us a lot going forward. Rosicky is very skilful and when his feet move, the opposition does not know where the ball goes! If people think this will leave us too exposed, Fabregas is no slouch when it comes to tackling and Rosicky will win his fair share of tackles.
The front three will be Arshavin, Eduardo and van Persie.
There is nothing to say about Arshavin that has not been written, he is a player who is direct, skilful, scores goals and has great vision. To be able to see him, Rosicky and Fabregas ply together will amazing for Arsenal fans, but daunting for the opposition.
Robin van Persie needs to play wide on the right, allowing him to turn defenders inside out. He can cut in from the wing and shoot with his left. Van Persie is no able to play as the main striker.
Eduardo is a striker, a finisher, a natural goal scorer, he needs to play in the middle and feed-off the chances that the players around him create.
So my first XI would be
Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Clichy
Van Persie Eduardo Arshavin
