Hazard A Summer Target
Having seen the latest group of Academy graduates win last night against West Brom in the Carling Cup, Arsene Wenger is being linked with yet another of Europe’s young “whizz-kids”, this time it is Belgium’s Eden Hazard who is currently playing with Lille,
Arsenal have been monitoring the player for some time and there were reports that the club were going to make a move for him in the summer. Arsene decided not to approach Lille, realising that another year at Lille playing will more beneficial for the player, than spending a year in Arsenal’s reserves.
The 18 year-old winger admires Arsenal and has gone on record to state that it is his dream to play for Real Madrid and Arsenal.
“Real Madrid and Arsenal are the clubs I dreamed of joining as a child.
“If I joined Inter or Barcelona and could play football there then that would be very good, but Real and Arsenal are really great and play at a very high technical level.
“I have a three-year contract and feel that I have a lot to learn in Lille.
“The situation could only change if a club offers £26million and Lille were unable to refuse, but for now I ask all the clubs interested to respect my decision: I want another year to develop at Lille.
“After that, we will see.”
Arsenal are believed to be interested in signing Eden in 2010, but the only drawback is the fee quoted by the player himself, £26million is not a fee that Arsenal will pay for a youngster, other than that he is a player that Wenger would like to see at Arsenal.
