Matuidi in England

Sky Sports have been reporting that not only that Arsenal are interested in signing St. Etienne’s midfielder Blaise Matuidi, but that the player is in England at the moment.  They go on to day that the play is in England with his agent and has been shown around Arsenal, and I do not think they meant a stadium tour!

For a player to be shown around another club’s stadium and training facility unless that club is Manchester United to whom taping up is second nature, it can only meant that the clubs have agreed a fee.  St Etienne would have given the player permission to speak to Arsenal. Terms must have been discussed and a medical cannot be far away.

Matuidi is a 22 year central midfielder standing at 5ft 9in, no giant.  He has expressed an interest and desire in joining Arsenal and Arsenal have been “tracking” the player all season.

If this transfer is as  advanced as Sky Sports is reporting, where does that leave the potential transfer of Felipe Melo?

  1. Ibrahim sabo 4rm nigeria

Any player dat is verge 2 join arsenal, is wellcom

  2. Forget Melo. Melo is no more. He will go to Juventus. Ive never seen Matuidi play, anyone know what hes like? Better than Song or Denilson?

  3. Any player ‘ll b wellcome preferably a striker or a defender cos d midfield is jampacked with d likes of rosicky, frabigas, nasri, arshavin, diaby, walcolt, song etc

  4. Go to the Arsenal website, look at the photos of the guys training yesterday, is that Matuidi, in photo no. 6, running between Almunia and Big Phil??

  5. NOPE!! its Kyle Bartley-reserve team defender!!

  6. Better to get someone who wants to come to us, not a jumped up novice. This Melo guy was at Almeria in Spain then Fiorentina. Does that make him a jwel? From what I saw in Confederation Cup he had a habit of vanishing.

Getting 17 yellows and 3 red in a season is also sign he is not very good at his job and that is serie A., can you imagine what it’d be like in PL.

  7. That`s Kyle Bartley there beetween Almunia and Senderos.

  8. well i wud certainly love if Matuidi comes to “The Grove”. he was a talented young lad with french u-21 team then and now has some added on experience in the past year in french league . even FIFA games have showed him to b a prospect 🙂
in short a gud lad in the masherano mould dat is “cut the attack n the pass”

BUT my only concern is that the lad is 22yrs old so hes gonna b yet another competition for song n deni SO WATS THE PT> IN GETTIN HIM ???

  9. everyone keeps getting bartley mixed up with matuidi… i dont see why, bartley is 6 foot + and matuidi is small fry compared to him.

  10. i think Melo is good but since he is not interested in coming to Arsenal, let it be. Matuidi is also a good player. Potential Arsenal players are never known as sa superstar b4 they arrive the team. Its really anice move, we need a defensive midfielder.

  11. So we may be getting the “cheaper” model in Matuidi. Were you fellow GOONERS really taken in by us buying MELO @ £20mil+. I bet we were used (and paid) by Fiorentina to get a higher fee for Melo from Juve.
Of those in the frame for a potential DCM purchase, Cana is the most complete of the list that’s doing the rounds. He would need to calm his temper but other than that he loves a tackle, can score goals and at 6’1″ is better suited, pysically than Matuidi.
However fellow GOONERS be aware that there may not be any further signings as the “budget” has probably been used on securing RVP, Wilshire, Gibbs etc on lomg term contracts. Take this into account and the boards refusal to accept Mr Usmanov’s generous offer plus comments made by Mr Gazides and the writing is on the wall…..WE’RE SKINT
