Is Wenger About to Buy A Brazilian Defender?
Internet site Sport.co.uk, the site that first reported the imminent signature of Thomas Vermaelen, though in fairness they do print so much garbage they are making Tribal football look respectable, are stating that Brazilian centre back Naldo is on his way from Werder Bremen to Arsenal.
They quote Werder Bremen coach who said, “Naldo is a great athlete and could do well at the right club, unfortunately he doesn’t fit the direction we’re planning to move in any longer.
“We expect to move him for somewhere in the region of €10 million, and English side Arsenal is as of now the most likely destination.”
Naldo is a big defender at 6ft 4inches and is a versatile two-footed central defender; he is capable of playing right across the back line and has been capped four times by Brazil.
If Wenger moves for Naldo, it will surely signal the end of Kolo Toure’s career at Arsenal. The price quoted is right up Wenger’s street, €10 million for Naldo and €10 million for Vermaelen will be offset by €16 million for Toure and €7 million for Senderos.
