Toure for Richards Swap?

Kolo Toure’s relationship with Gallas has been well documented, they do not get on!  Toure has told everyone and he was close to leaving in January.  A transfer request was handed in but Arsene spoke to Kolo and the request was withdrawn.

Only last week Toure extolled the virtues of keeping the squad together

“I think keeping the team together is the most important thing,” he said. “When you stay with your team-mate for three or four years you start to learn how he plays.

“That helps you for the games and I think we have been together for a while now. It’s important for our improvement next season.

“Sometimes when you bring somebody else, these players have to settle and that can take a year sometimes.

“The Premier League is already difficult so if you play six months badly it’s difficult to come back.”

Now some spurious reports have Toure wanting to leave and fulfil he dream of playing for Manchester City!

Furthermore, Toure who would command a fee of around £14 million is being considered as a make-weight in a move by Arsenal for Micah Richards.  Richards, the reports say is valued at £6 million.  Now maths may not be a strong point for some journalists, but if such a move was to go through it would Richards who is the make-weight.

Is there some credence in this report?  Well yes.  Toure’s contract expires next summer; he is one player that the boss has not mentioned about renewing his contract.  Wenger is a great fan of Richards, who can fill-in at either right-back or centre-back.  This boy was being talked about as a £20 million target only two years ago, now to be able to get his hands on him for £6 million might be too much of a temptation.

Wenger knows he has to choose between Gallas and Toure and the Frenchman has been the more competent of the two over the last few seasons, he reads the game better and rarely gets flustered.

If Wenger thinks its time for Toure to leave and he can get £14 million, whilst spending £6 million on Richards and £10 million of Vermaelen, then that is good business and refreshes the squad in a vital area.

  1. Best deal of the year i think Micah Richards is very talanted a gooner through and through and not in the african nations cup as english
Get this deal done then a decent experienced holding midfielder and world class striker
    Get rid of Abe

  2. Agree completely. Keeping out fingers crossed!

  3. Micah Richards? Talented no doubt but can also be an injury-prone player. We’re already a bit scarce at the back as we saw last season so getting another suspect defender isn’t the answer. However, if Citeh want to gives us Richards and some cash that would be a fair deal to allow us to buy some more cover or put that money to the kitty for another player for more depth.

  4. Wasn’t sold on the idea, but this article changed my opinion. I think a pairing of Gallas and Vermaelen will be a strong 1st choice, with Djourou and Richards as cover. It also provides cover for Sagna at RB, Clichy at LB and would allow Wenger to sell Eboue if he desires. If these moves were to take place, I think it would cement Song as a midfielder as well, but I still believe we could use a more experienced CM to partner Cesc. No striker unless Ade or RVP are sold, which I’m starting to doubt.

  5. looks good to me.hope couple of players will be arriving at arsenal to add strength.can’t wait to start the season…a gunner wellwisher.

  6. Its right !!
Now its d time to refresh d squad in their vital areas.
    Now 2 important things ARSENAL need d most;
    (1)-An experienced center back &
    (2)-A world class midfeilder.
Its time to get rid of Adebayor, Eduaro, K.Toure.
As ARSENAL is known as d club for & team Of YOUTH’s, ARSENAL has Fresh & talented youngsters like K.Gibbs, T.Walcott, C.Fabregas, S.Nasri !!!!!!!!!!
    So Go GuNNerzZZZZZZ

  7. Utter nonesence!

  8. it may refresh the squad in a vital area… no doubt..
but it also sucks some of the much needed experience out of a vital area..
i see the benefits of micah richards… i mean did you see his header for the under 21s England vs Sweden…
but, we owe ourselves to be able to keep the players we love and overall i think we’d be better of with Toure than without.

  9. Apparently Micah Richards worth went from 12 mil in the winter to 6 mil because he has a poor attitude towards the game and his performance has gotten worse says Mark Hughes
