Kroenke and Usmanov Talk to Wenger

What a turbulent week, Wenger throws away a line about Real Madrid and suddenly we felt like the roof hade caved in on our little world. Everyone came out in support of Wenger.

Hill-Wood came out like the proud rooster, strutting his stuff about how disgraceful those shareholders were and how dare they question a man like Wenger.  This is typical of our board looking down at people, even when those people own part of the club.

Ivan Gazidis kept quiet on the matter until Thursday, when he said, “Arsene made Arsenal what they are today, and the fans understand it perfectly,” he said. “If he was to leave tomorrow, he would do it with his head up, not by the back door.”

It is no coincidence that Gazidis remained quiet on the matter until the press reported that both Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov spoke to Arsene Wenger.  The intrigue here why would these two men, one a non-executive director and the other not even on the board speak to Wenger and what will they be speaking to him about?

We know that Gazidis is friendly with Kroenke and Kroenke hinted at a sizeable “war chest” for Wenger recently, which is not exactly what the board led Wenger to believe he had to spend.  We also know that Usmanov has offered to put at Wenger’s disposal £100 million by paying off part of the club loan.

Now we hear that Wenger has a war chest that is sizeable.  Is this all a coincidence?  This is clearly the new board members, Gazidis-Kroenke bouncing both Hill-Wood and Fiszman into providing Wenger with the money he really needs to strengthen the squad.

Clearly the old board is the proverbial lame-duck and the sooner they relinquish the reigns the sooner and faster the club will move ahead.

  1. I agree Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov should get together maybe stan joining Red and White Holdings and takeover the club
Provide Wenger with 100 million this summer
Increase stadium capacity to 90,000 over next two years

Why would Stan Kroenke need to to join Red and White Holdings. Haven’t you heard that Stan Kroenke is now the major shareholder – not Usmanov.

Stan Kroenke has 28.3% of shares. He needs just 1.7% more to takeover the club. He controls voting rights and is pretty much the main man on the board.

      Usmanov has 25% of shares.

  3. The season has been good:

    1. It has opened all people’s eyes to the FACT that Wenger has been performing magic on a shoestring budget. It has shown clearly to all that the Board or the huge debt incurred on the new stadium have been the reason for this. It has brought it home to ALL that Arsenal cannot go on like this: it cannot eat its cake and still have it; it cannot fail to spend to hold and to beef up its team and still expect a chestful of trophies.

    2. If Wenger fails to buy new and experienced stars AND keep all the current stars it wants to keep then the fans should direct its venom on the Board and not Wenger.

    3. The additional good news is that the Board have indicated that they too crave trophies now as much as the fans.

I cannot wait to see what this will translate to in the off season transfers market; I cannot wait to see the “balanced” Arsenal that will result therefrom. Chelsea, Liverpool, ManU and Europe here we come!!

we need to start spending. we have a good foundation but we need to buy the experience and quality that we lack at times. Arshavin came in and immediately we see an impact. The team is more dynamic and is a totally different team when he plays. but we just need to strengthen in our CB area and mayb holding mid. We have enough strikers and attacking mid players. and remember Rosicky is still to come into the fray with his experience as well. Theo at times show his lack of experience and composure but 2 more players will be fine.

  5. I believe Arsenal’s weaknesses have clearly been seen even by men in the street. Wenger knows! However, he may have different solution to sort out the problems. Buying new players surely one of his options but it must not be the only one. Gallas and Toure have previously been named world best by us and they can still perform. We need to support them!We have good midfielders too. What I think we lack is the depth of our bench. Let buy some players who can always work with their sock off, like Cahill of Everton, Davis of Bolton, Tuncay of Middle Boro, Crouch of Portmouth and etc.. who may not have the talents we need but they are genuine fighters who, I believe, can help us to win teams sitting at the second half of the league table as ManU did this year.

  6. I think Arsenal need 3 more players to be realistically as good as United and Chelsea next season.

Firstly i feel we need a good quality keeper who can either act as decent cover for Almunia or maybe even take over his role as number one, people underestimate the importance of a world class kepper when trying to win top honours, i feel someone like Kameni from Espanyol woule be a good sighning, and for as little as 3 million.

We also need a centre back, someone with experience but who isnt too old, Bassong or Vermaelan would be both as good as each other, either one for around 8-10 million would be a good signing, Bassong however does have experence of the Premier League, maybe making hima preferable option.

Finally we need a good defensive midfielder who will add steel to our midfield. Cana from Marseaille or Veloso from Lisbon would be both good sighnings, Alonso would be gret but i feel he may be be too expensive.
