Arsenal v Porto (Match Preview)
After Saturday’s disappointment, the plus points are that Wenger has promised changes and we do not have to wait long to see what the team’s reaction will be.
Samir Nasri is back in the squad and hopefully he will start on the left. It will be great to see Nasri and Walcott tearing defences apart. On Saturday our attacks were too predictable and restricted to Theo’s pace. Nasri’s inclusion means Eboue will start on the bench and hopefully that will be a long time for the Ivorian.
Carlos Vela and, or Nicklas Bendtner must both be close to starting against Porto. I would start Bendtner in place of Adebayor, giving van Persie 60 minutes to show what hew can do, but bring on Vela for the last 30 minutes regardless. Thirty minutes is the minimum to allow Vela the opportunity to show us what he can do.
Confusion reigns as far as the midfield is concerned. Ramsey is being quoted as a possible starter, yet he does not appear to be listed in the squad, whilst Wilshere is included but is listed as playing tonight against Aston Villa for the reserves. Song is out due to injury, which makes you wonder why was he on the bench on Saturday.
Despite our cornerphobia, I do not expect Wenger to make any changes to the defence.
The Champions League group is tough and we must look at taking maximum points at home, if we start in the same vain as we did against Hull City we are in trouble and Wenger will be sick. A good performance is called for and expected by all the fans going to the Emirates tomorrow night.
