Transfer Window Has Closed – What Has Happened?
The transfer deadline has now passed, but there is still no news from Arsenal as to who they have signed, if anybody. Lots of speculation but at this moment, Wenger does not appear to have added to the squad.
Today has been overshadowed by Manchester City, their new ownership and their £34M transfer of Robinho, who they snapped up from under the noses of Chelsea, much to the annoyance of Abramovich and Kenyon. Meanwhile, Manchester United are trying to sign Berbatov who had a medical at Old Trafford and also held talks with Ferguson despite Spurs not giving permission for him to talk to Manchester United.
Spurs have bought in Pavlyuchenko and Corluka, whilst Liverpool have signed former Manchester City flop Riera from Espanyol.
These are the main signings in England, whilst one-time Liverpool target Ricardo Queresma has joined Inter Milan. Some rumours had Vieira joining Arsenal on a season-long loan. This would be a surprise move by Wenger due to Vieira’s age, but it would be a move that could appease the fans in the short-term, but does Viera still have the legs for a gruelling Premier League campaign? I doubt it and if this went through it would be with the intention of easing Diaby and Denilson through the season.
