Arsenal v FC Twente – Match Preview
Today sees Arsenal take on FC Twente in the second leg of the Champions League Qualifier. A 2-0 lead from the first leg should be enough to see Arsenal progress through to the group stages.
What remains to be seen is not whether or not we win, but can Arsenal , for the first time produce flowing, attacking football. The return of Cesc Fabregas will go a long way to helping that happen. But one player will not change everything, the others namely Nasri and more importantly Walcott, need to produce the kind of football we know they can.
Adebayor has been out of sorts so far, but he has not been alone. Van Persie has not yet sparkled, the Dutchman looks desperate for a goal and the longer he goes on without scoring the more desperate he will get. Bendtner has so far not been able to produce his pre-season form, whilst Carlos Vela has not come off the bench yet. This game should see Vela appear for at least 30 minutes, to show the fans what he can do.
At the back, we may see Silvestre given a run out some time during the game, his reception from the Arsenal fans will be interesting. Though Song played well towards the end of last season, I expect Toure and Gallas will be given time to sort their partnership out.
On the bench we might get a glimpse of Ramsey, Randall and Wilshere. Wilshere may be given a cameo role if Arsenal are cruising.
The primary purpose of the game is for Arsenal to progress to the group stages, but also important will be the performance. But no matter what the result, we cannot allow this to mask over the cracks that have recently become so apparent.
