Arsenal Swoop for United Star?

It is being reported that Arsenal have made an offer, which has been accepted, for Manchester United star Mikael Silvestre. Silvestre can play anywhere along the back line.

It is understood that Silvestre is tempted to move to the Emirates and join the small colony of French players already under the guidance of Arsene Wenger.  His move to Arsenal will give Wenger the flexibility at the back and could see both Armand Traore and Kieran Gibbs leave on loan.

It will be interesting to see what sort of reception Silvestre will be given by both sets of fans; a favourite at Old Trafford and much maligned figure by Arsenal fans.  Whilst he has been in discussions with Sunderland, it is astonishing that Fergie will allow such a versatile player to leave and join one of his closest rivals.

Most fans are not sure about this move, a former Man Utd player, so enriched in Fergie’s hatred for Arsenal to suddenly pop-up at the Emirates.  His every move will be scrutinised.  He will certainly add depth and experience to Arsenal’s defence.  It will enable Wenger to rest Clichy and let Traore go out on loan for a season.  This signing will be strange as Wenger has allowed Gilberto to leave.  Glberto had experience and experience in playing in central midfield, now we are left scouring Europe looking fora player nobody else has spotted.

What Arsenal fans wil be hoping is that this is not the experienced player that Wenger has spoken about.  That will annoy all of us and make Silvestre’s acceptance all the more difficult.
