Nordveit Joins Salamanca
Arsenal and UD Salamanca have both announced that Arsenal’s Norwegian centre-half Harvard Nordveit has joined the Spanish outfit on a season long loan.
Harvard joined last summer from FK Haugesund for £2M, and was soon and made reserve team captain.
Nordveit had an injury ravaged season last year. Wenger mentioned him as possibly pushing for a first team place this season, however, his lack of involvement with the first team this summer had indicated that Wenger had seen enough of Song and Djourou at the back to realise that he would not needing the services of the tall Norwegian,
Harvard will join up with another Arsenal player at Salamanca, Pedro, the Brazilian left-back. Both will take part in Salamanca’s pre-season tour of Portugal and then hope to cement regular places in La Segunda team’s defence.
Also waiting at an airport for Arsene’s approval to leave is Fran Merida. Fran spent most of last season at Real Sociedad and has come to a preliminary agreement to spend this season with the Basque outfit gaining valuable first –team experience before moving back to England. Merida has not developed as fast as Arsenal had anticipated, that may be due to the year that he had out before joning Arsenal from Barcelona, but no doubt Merida will be a star of the future.
